Eco aid Algarve will be attempting to raise money and awareness for Goldra animal sanctuary.

By organising a sponsored charity bike ride from Albufeira to Sagres over 2 days on 7th and 8th November 2009.

We are looking for volunteer cyclists who wish to be proactive participants in helping support Goldra.

We will be following a section (Albufeira to Sagres) of the new Ecovia bike route which runs between Vila Real Sto Antonio and Cape St Vicente, Sagres.

The cost to participate in this event is €20 per day (or €40 of sponsorship). This €20 will include food and drink during the ride, free accommodation and an official t-shirt.

The route runs past the Algarve towns of Albufeira, Armaçãoo de Pêra, Lagoa, Ferragudo, Alvor, Lagos, Luz, Vila do Bispo, Sagres and on to Cabo de S. Vicente. Totaling 110km broken over two days.

Meeting will take place on Saturday 7th November in Albufeira outside shop 'Paws4Pets'. All overnight baggage will be transported to our half way overnight stop.

We can organise bike rental for the two days for €20 (normally €30) or €10 for one day.

Full Activity Details

Day 1

» Meeting point and regristration in front of 'Paws4Pets' pet shop on Nov. 7th at 8.30am and plan to leave at 9am. 'Paws4Pets' is located at near Galp petrol station on entrance to Albufeira, Montechoro side. See Map for Details.

» We will then access the 'Ecovia' Bike in the direction of Salgados. From there we will casually make our way to Lagos with some stops for refreshments or catching a breath.

» Due to the fact that the 'Ecovia' route is not fully complete around Portimão, we will be taking a scenic detour. Instead of cycling on the EN125 we will be cycling towards Alvor and have organised a boat with Alvor Boat Trips to take us across the estuary. From there it is a straight run along Meia Praia.

» Accommodation for the first night is arranged through the Municipal do Lagos and Ecovia Algarve. It consits of a modest mattress on the floor of a sports hall. Those who do not wish to avail of this luxourious digs can choose to get the train back at any stage and join us again in the morning. The train times : 14h10, 16h24, 18h10, 19h15, 20,16. It costs €2.70.

» Along the route we will be accompanied at the back by a large jeep (Adventure Algarve) and a mini bus (Scuba Tour) for any bike problems or first aid.

» We plan on going for a meal together in Lagos (at your own cost) where the mid-way raffle and entertainment will take place. Tickets for raffle are available from Kim on 00351 911966785. Day 2

» On the 8th, we will set out from Lagos with destination; Cabo de S. Vicente along the 'Ecovia' route.

» Our final point will be to watch the sun setting over the western horizon and celebrate a job well done.

» Transport will be organised to take people and bikes back to Albufeira. However, additional transport would be appreciated. So far we have bike transport by (GFS Metalworks) and people transport by Stephan (Scuba Tour), Vanessa and Kim (Adventure Algarve).Why not ask friends or family to join us for the sunset over the horizon. The estimated time of arrival is about 4pm.
